The Underworld Priest Pathway

Type 8 The ChallengerPriest SoulShamanic Healing

You serve in the underworld - a priest who goes where others fear.

What do you do when the room goes quiet because the thing no one will name is finally sitting at the center of the table? You name it. Not to provoke, not to perform, but because you have a particular tolerance for the dark corners that most people flinch from. You walk toward what others circle around. That is not recklessness. It is your function.

About INTI NAN

INTI NAN is a self-discovery framework grounded in Andean Q'ero cosmology. It maps three dimensions of who you are: the Enneagram type that shapes how you act in the world, the Soul Type that names why you came, and the Healing Path that names how you return to wholeness. The convergence of one of each produces 189 unique pathways. This is one of them.

About the Name

The Underworld Priest draws from two sources: the Hampiq, the Quechua Priest soul whose purpose is to serve at the threshold between ordinary life and what lies beneath it, and the Type 8 Challenger who moves toward pressure rather than away. Together they name a rare convergence: a priestly function exercised not in light but in descent, in the places where ordinary authority stops working.

How This Pathway Shows Up

You are the one people call when the situation has no clean answer and no easy exit.

A particular kind of person gets handed the hard rooms. Not because they asked for them, but because something in the way they stand makes it clear they will not look away. You are that person. And you have probably stopped wondering why the most difficult conversations always seem to find you.

  • In a meeting where everyone has softened their language to avoid a hard truth, you say the unredacted version. You do not raise your voice. You simply stop performing the politeness.
  • Someone in your life brings you a problem they have been unable to say aloud to anyone else. They do not explain why they chose you. They just knew.
  • When a situation turns ugly, you notice that your body does not tighten the way others' do. You take a step forward. The room registers the difference.
  • You are handed responsibility in a crisis that others have already mishandled. You do not take stock of the mess first. You take the first required action and assess as you go.
  • After a difficult conversation that left others drained, you are the one who checks in on how the other person is doing. Your toughness and your care occupy the same sentence.

The Three Worlds Within You

INTI NAN maps three dimensions: who you are now (Kay Pacha, Enneagram), why you came (Hanan Pacha, Soul Type), how you heal (Ukhu Pacha, Healing). Your pathway is the convergence of one of each.

Guardian Puma · This World · Type 8

The Force That Moves First

Type 8 does not wait for permission before entering a difficult space.

The Enneagram Type 8 pattern is one of forward motion, directness, and a strong intolerance for pretense. This pathway does not soften its presence to make others comfortable. Puma, the guardian of Kay Pacha, moves low to the ground, close to what is real. The Type 8 expression here is not brute intensity for its own sake. It is the particular willingness to apply force precisely where softness has failed, and to stay in difficult ground long enough to see what actually needs to change.

Guardian Kuntur · Upper World · Priest Soul

The Priest Who Descends

The Hampiq soul carries a commission to serve where the cost is highest.

The Priest soul, Hampiq in Quechua, does not serve from a place of safety. Its orientation is toward those who are in distress, in confusion, or at a threshold they cannot cross alone. Kuntur, the guardian of Hanan Pacha, moves between worlds. The Hampiq soul recognizes this movement as its natural register. In this pathway, the priestly function is not ceremonial comfort. It is the capacity to accompany someone into the most difficult part of their situation and remain present when the ground becomes unstable.

Guardian Amaru · Inner World · Shamanic Healing

Reshaping What Surrounds

Shamanic Healing moves by changing the environment, not by waiting for internal resolution.

Amaru, the guardian of Ukhu Pacha, moves through what is underneath. The Shamanic Healing path works by altering the conditions around a person: the relational field, the physical space, the structural circumstances that have kept a pattern in place. In this pathway, that outward-before-inward direction aligns precisely with how the Priest soul and Type 8 already operate. Change the room, then the person in the room shifts. The environment is not backdrop. It is the primary lever.

What the three produce together is a pathway that functions as an agent of change in situations where most approaches have already been tried and failed. The Hampiq soul supplies the commission to serve. The Type 8 pattern supplies the forward motion and the direct contact with hard reality. The Shamanic direction supplies the understanding that the inner state changes through altering what is outer. The result is someone who walks into the worst rooms and rearranges them, not through force alone, but through a specific kind of priestly authority that operates only at depth.

In Your Life

In Love

The person you are with eventually realizes you will not leave when things get hard. That realization lands differently than most reassurances do, because it did not come through words. It came through you staying in three separate conversations that most people would have ended early. What you ask of a partner is equivalent: stay in the room. The difficulty arises when your directness reads as aggression when you mean it as contact.

At Work

You get assigned to the project that was already on fire. Not always by choice, but because the person handing out assignments knows you will not flinch at the state of it. You take stock fast and move. Your Shamanic direction shows up here as an instinct to restructure the external conditions rather than waiting for morale to improve on its own. Change the structure, the morale follows. Your Hampiq function means you also notice who in the room is drowning.

In Family

You are the one who gets called when something in the family breaks in a way that cannot be handled with a group text. The difficult news, the estrangement that has gone on too long, the relative no one else knows how to talk to. You do not find this role glamorous. You find it necessary. The friction is that the family sometimes treats your capacity for hard conversations as a reason to stop doing their own part.

In Friendship

Your friends know they can bring you the version of the problem they have not said to anyone else. The one with the embarrassing parts still in it. You do not soften the feedback, but you also do not leave. Both things matter to the people who stay close to you. What you need from a friendship is someone who will come back after a hard conversation rather than protecting the relationship by avoiding one.

What Sets This Apart

The direction of the transformation is what separates this pathway from every close relative.

Three pathways share the Priest soul and Type 8 pattern. All three move toward difficulty. All three carry a function that most people in a room would rather hand off. What separates The Underworld Priest is not intensity or willingness to engage. It is the direction in which change is initiated: outward first, then inward, through the restructuring of what surrounds.

The Priest soul's commission, routed through Type 8's forward motion and Shamanic Healing's outward-first direction, produces a pathway that changes rooms before it changes people.

Soul + Type sibling
The Fierce Light

The Fierce Light, with Energy Healing as its path, works through the body as the primary instrument of change. The shift registers somatically before the mind names it. The Underworld Priest works by changing the external conditions, the structure, the environment, the relational field. The body follows once the room has changed. Same commission, different sequence.

Soul + Healing sibling
The Altar Keeper

The Altar Keeper shares the Shamanic Healing direction and the Priest soul, but carries the Type 1 Perfectionist pattern rather than Type 8. Where The Altar Keeper tends, refines, and maintains what exists, The Underworld Priest enters what is broken and alters it directly. One preserves; the other descends. Both serve, but through entirely different instincts.

Type + Healing sibling
The Power Artist

The Power Artist shares Type 8 intensity and the Shamanic Healing direction, but carries an Artisan soul. The Artisan soul's function is to make something that did not previously exist. The Priest soul's function is to accompany and intercede. The Power Artist builds. The Underworld Priest enters. The Shamanic direction looks similar from the outside; the purpose behind it is different.

What You Carry

Gifts

Descent Without Flinching

You enter situations that are already damaged or dangerous without the hesitation that causes others to manage from a distance. Your presence in the worst moment of a situation changes what is possible there.

Environmental Leverage

You instinctively identify which external conditions are maintaining a stuck pattern. You change the structure, the room, the arrangement of circumstances, and watch the inner dynamic shift as a consequence.

Priestly Confrontation

The Hampiq commission and the Type 8 directness together produce a particular kind of care: fierce, specific, and present. You name what needs to be named, and the person across from you knows it comes from investment, not contempt.

Friction

Perpetual Hard Room

Because you are capable of handling the worst situations, they are handed to you consistently. Over time, you may find yourself in every difficult situation and none of the easy ones. The role self-reinforces.

Force Over Patience

When direct action is what you know, the slower work of waiting for someone to arrive at their own answer can feel like negligence. You move when movement is not yet what is needed.

Inaccessible Interior

You accompany others into their most difficult territory. Your own most difficult territory rarely gets the same company. People near you learn not to ask how you are doing, because your answer closes the inquiry quickly.

Where This Goes

What shifts is not the willingness to descend but the recognition that you also need someone at the entrance.

This pathway does not outgrow its function. You will still be the one who walks into the hard rooms. That does not change, and it should not.
But something shifts when you stop treating your own difficulty as less serious than everyone else's. The person who officiated the descent for others starts to understand that the service goes both directions.

  • You begin asking for company before you descend rather than after. The request comes early, not as a sign of failure, but as a sign that you know how deep the work actually goes.
  • You develop a working distinction between the situations that need your directness now and the ones that need your presence first. The pause between perception and action widens.
  • You let someone else name the hard thing in a room you are both in. You notice you do not stop them. You recognize this as a form of trust you did not previously extend.

Questions

How does this pathway handle conflict?

Directly and without delay. The Type 8 pattern does not avoid confrontation, and the Hampiq commission means the purpose behind the directness is the other person's situation, not self-assertion. Conflict is not a problem here. Unresolved conflict that everyone is pretending does not exist is the problem.

How does this pathway grow over time?

The primary shift is learning that the outward-first direction applies to the holder's own life too. The person who restructures everyone else's circumstances gradually turns that same lever on their own. The Shamanic direction, over time, stops being only something used on behalf of others.

How are people on this pathway most commonly misunderstood by others?

As intimidating without purpose, or as someone who creates conflict for its own sake. The Hampiq function is invisible from the outside; what is visible is the Type 8 forward motion and the willingness to say what others will not. The care behind it is present but not always legible.

What does living this pathway well look like in daily life?

The ordinary version is someone who takes the difficult call, says the true thing at the dinner table, and then genuinely checks in on the person afterward. The Shamanic direction shows up as an instinct to fix the structural problem rather than repeat the same conversation about the emotional symptom.

What is the question someone on this pathway should be sitting with at this stage of life?

Who comes with me? The pathway carries a strong pull toward operating alone, toward being the one who goes in because no one else will. The question the Hampiq soul and Type 8 pattern eventually produce together is whether solo descent is wisdom or habit.

Can someone carry The Underworld Priest pathway with different Enneagram wings?

With Type 8 wing 7, the pathway carries more momentum and range; the descent is faster, the recovery quicker, and there is a hunger for the next hard situation. With Type 8 wing 9, the pathway carries more stillness; the force is present but more deliberate, and the priestly quality of steady accompaniment comes through more readily.

What is Shamanic Healing and how does it connect to the Enneagram of this pathway?

Shamanic Healing works by altering the conditions outside the person: the environment, the relational field, the structural arrangement of a situation. For Type 8, whose pattern already moves outward first, this direction is native. The combination means change is initiated in the world, not waited for from the inside.
